Beginning the work

To better understand the situation’s complexities, it proved helpful to categorize existing solutions into broad categories. We arrived at the following five main groups:

• •Direct access interface solutions like Oura, Ogmios, Yaci, UTxORPC, or Cardano Node API among others, allow developers to connect to the Cardano blockchain and retrieve raw blockchain data in real time.
• •Chain indexers like Yaci Store, Ledger Sync, DB-Sync, Kupo, Scrolls, Carp, Argus, or Mumak, offer structured and efficient ways to query historical blockchain data.
• •API providers such as Maestro, Koios, Blockfrost, and others, abstract much of the complexity, providing a streamlined way to interact with the blockchain through RESTful APIs.
• •Off-chain libraries and SDKs embed these API providers into client-side or serverless applications, reducing backend dependencies. Examples include Mesh.js, Blaze, pyCardano, Lucid, Lucid Evolution.
• •BaaS platforms like Demeter.run offer a fully managed, sandboxed environment for rapid prototyping and deployment.

Selecting the right solution from such a variety of options requires careful consideration of the application's needs.

For instance, it might involve knowing whether the solution demands real-time event streaming. Or if it calls for historical ledger data. Or lightweight API-based access. Or numerous other aspects.

So the team set out to develop a smart guide that encompasses the wide range of Cardano tools and makes choosing the right ones easier.

One of the main features of this smart guide is that it’s actually based on text files anyone can edit even without programming experience. Changes to these files trigger the tool compass to rebuild, including new questionnaire paths, project features, or pros and cons.
