The innovative approach not only improved fan experiences but also combatted counterfeiting in the licensed sports merchandise industry. An immutable blockchain record, represented by a digital twin of each jersey as a token, contained information about the product as well as the event. This allowed for enhanced transparency, building trust, and improving the customer experience by providing proof of authenticity and ownership. The Cardano Foundation Identity Wallet further showcases the applications of a digital decentralized identity protocol. The wallet's design prioritizes flexibility and interoperability across Web 2.0 and Web 3.0, providing tailored solutions that can offer mobile, web-based, and desktop options. It also complies with international standards for electronic digital signature—such as eIDAS, UETA, or E-Sign—and is available for Android as well as iPhone, guaranteeing enhanced private key security in both instances, by respectively integrating hardware security module and secure enclave technology.

Moreover, the Foundation’s Identity Wallet will leverage key event receipt infrastructure (KERI) and have support for both KERI-based identifiers and trust over IP credentials structured as authentic chained data containers (ACDC), enabling the conversion of World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) credentials to ACDCs. These functions further expand the potential use cases and enterprise-level solutions the wallet can support.

Additionally, KERI facilitates comprehensive digital identity management for organizations, enabling secure representation of real-world hierarchies and relationships. It supports various identifier types and delegation of administrative controls, enhancing cryptographic security and authenticity.
  • Document signing and verification: Decentralized identity serves as a validated digital signature that can help meet regulatory clearance requirements, thus eliminating the concerns associated with centralized identities.
  • Verifiable digital documents: A KERI-based proof-of-concept facilitates secure document signing through the Cardano Foundation Identity Wallet. Users generate digital signatures directly on their mobile devices. A complementary web application serves as a platform for document uploads, real-time signing requests, and signature verification.
  • Secure voting: Hybrid voting on Cardano combines on-chain and off-chain processes. Once submitted into a traditional database off-chain, votes become available for verification and submission on-chain, ensuring public verification and transparency. Notably, only the voter can confirm the submission of their vote for their chosen candidate. In essence, the interpretation of a vote rests solely with the user, not others. The Cardano Ballot stands as an example of a user-friendly, hybrid voting system, further bolstered by mobile identity integration.
  • Custom notifications and non-repudiable communications: Organizations can transmit tailored notifications to their users' mobile devices or employees through the identity wallet. This messaging or notification feature, with an upcoming chat feature planned for next year, utilizes the same cryptographic primitives (security measures) as those implemented for identity and credentials.
