The Cardano Foundation’s sponsorship of WyoHackathon 2019 in Wyoming will further boost the state’s efforts to become the blockchain center of the United States

LARAMIE, WYOMING, 19 SEPTEMBER 2019.

The Cardano Foundation’s sponsorship of WyoHackathon 2019 in Wyoming will further boost the state’s efforts to become the blockchain center of the United States. The Switzerland-based Foundation already supports a number of academic, educational and research initiatives that study blockchain technology across the globe together with its ecosystem partners, Input Output HK (IOHK) and EMURGO.

WyoHackathon, hosted by the University of Wyoming in Laramie, will empower and inspire tomorrow’s innovators — teenagers and students, policymakers and corporates, academics and researchers, developers and startups alike — in remote communities within the state. It will afford them an opportunity to gain skills of the future, and to help the state diversify its economy. The series of expert-led workshops – including several featuring specialists from IOHK, competitions and discussions will center on reshaping the least populous American state into a global blockchain hub.

The State of Wyoming, home to half a million people, already enacted 13 blockchain-enabling laws in 2018 and 2019. During the last two years alone, the state passed a bill allowing decentralized businesses to operate without bureaucratic hurdles and passed legislation on exemptions from money transmitting laws for virtual assets.

The Cardano Foundation, one of the world’s leading not-for-profit blockchain organizations, funds a number of initiatives targeting the development of the nascent blockchain technology by empowering young researchers and academics to drive the sector forward.

Recently, the Foundation boosted its support for research projects studying the security and the vulnerabilities of the blockchain industry, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s MIT Digital Currency Initiative becoming of the donees.

As the industry continues to professionalize and see more adoption from the traditional business sectors, blockchain is becoming an economic empowerment vehicle to lift youth out of poverty in developed and emerging markets alike. With the demand for blockchain developers rising, the industry is increasingly helping more young people carve out a brighter economic future.

The Cardano Foundation will continue its support of initiatives, such as the WyoHackathon, that will blaze a trail for the blockchain industry’s mass adoption, empower youth, spur economic growth and its diversification, and help educational institutions to design blockchain-related academic disciplines.
