State of the Cardano Developer Ecosystem Survey: 2024 Edition
Analyzing the current technical environment to identify potential disparities and empower the developer community
The Cardano developer community has an ongoing commitment to innovation and a willingness to share knowledge, nurturing a thriving ecosystem. To ensure such continual progress as well as a more secure and resilient blockchain network, developers require optimal tooling and information to identify problems and build robust solutions. Therefore, the Cardano Foundation proudly announces the third annual State of the Cardano Developer Ecosystem Survey.
Since its inaugural release in 2022, this survey has offered a method for evaluating the broader technical environment while uncovering potential disparities. In addition to providing a comprehensive view of Cardano’s technical landscape, the survey allows the Foundation and others building within the ecosystem to better examine the developer community's composition and preferences. It provides a means to understanding where developers find opportunities or encounter difficulties when utilizing the current Cardano programming stack.
The reports for both the 2022 and the 2023 editions, along with result interpretations, remain open source so as to grant the community full access to information and enable further analysis. In fact, open source technologies, along with an ecosystem’s open source maturity, consistently lead to novel approaches. This in turn results in new, more robust solutions that address the needs of an ever more varied set of users.
Moreover, active collaboration with the extended community and diverse enterprise participants represents a crucial step toward a sustainable and resilient Cardano ecosystem. For enterprises, an open source approach facilitates the development of technologies that address specific needs and readily update to accommodate new functions. Concurrently, it cultivates an equitable, innovative space for the community, allowing all developers to expand and refine vital tools for the network's future.
To further nurture open source development, the Cardano Foundation will continue its use and sharing of open source repositories. Indeed, this annual survey aids in optimizing the direction and priorities of such efforts. Similarly, it contributes to more informed decisions of where to focus programming resources within the Foundation and, perhaps, amongst other ecosystem players as well.
The 2024 survey will run for two weeks and should take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. We urge all developers in the Cardano community or with an interest in blockchain to take the survey.
