Removing the identifier that makes evidence tampering possible

A chain of custody where each handler sees only a case code specific to them

Removing the identifier that makes evidence tampering possible

A visible case number is the only thing standing between evidence and tampering

Criminal evidence travels with its case number in plain view, from the scene to the station to separate forensic labs. Anyone who touches the box along the way can tamper with the evidence.

The labs are kept separate on purpose, so results stay independent. A visible case ID undoes that separation, giving every handler a shared reference point to coordinate around and turning a well-designed process into one with three open windows for tampering.

Solution

TrivolveTech built the Forensic Management System (FMS) to replace the case ID with identifiers unique to each evidence handler.

Each party, from the scanning officer to a technician at a forensic lab, sees a different identifier with no derivable link to the others. Every scan and result is hashed to Cardano, and opening a sealed box is always attributable to whoever scans it.

Cardano gives TrivolveTech a public, tamper-resistant record for evidence data.

Demonstrated security and reliability support continuous operation.

Future-ready infrastructure supports platform growth without sacrificing performance.

Robust architecture protects sensitive data, minimizing the risk of breaches or fraud.

Energy-efficient consensus and ethical governance align with sustainability efforts.

A chain of custody with no shared reference point

Detached identifiers and Cardano anchoring turn evidence capture into an auditable, attributable record from crime scene to forensic lab.

Data capture

01.

Officers record the incident directly in the FMS app, and the data automatically reaches the station.

Record sealing

02.

The evidence box carries a secure QR code instead of a case ID, readable only by the FMS app.

Layered identifiers

03.

The laboratory head and each of the forensic labs scan to receive their own distinct, non-derivable identifier.

Anchoring

04.

Every scan and result is hashed to Cardano, making the record both unalterable and attributable.

Results

The deployment establishes a working, government-backed model for evidence integrity built on identifier separation.

01.
A live deployment with a government customer
The FMS operates today with police in Uttar Pradesh, handling active cases.
02.
Three tampering windows closed to one attributable log
Removing the shared case ID replaces a common reference point with a record of exactly who scanned each box and when.
03.
A Web2 front end that supports adoption
A conventional app running on top of Cardano, with the ledger kept discreet, made adoption easier for a police force.
04.
Accountability extending to the first login
Decentralized identifiers issued to police staff mean the chain of custody begins at login, not the first piece of evidence collected.
05.
Granularity chosen over cost savings
The police chose one transaction per data point, valuing tamper-proofing even though Cardano keeps transaction costs low.
"Police evidence handling depends on trust between departments that are deliberately kept separate. Before this system, that trust rested on a case number anyone could read. We built the Forensic Management System so the chain of custody does not depend on discretion. Each handler now works from an identifier meaningful only to their own step, and every scan becomes a permanent record on Cardano."
